2009 ASSESSMENT CRITERIA DOCUMENTS

Formal assessments are required before upgrading to the next higher grade or to maintain your current grade (Grade 6 and 5). Formal assessments are performed by USSF licensed assessors. Developmental Assessments are available for referees who wish to obtain an evaluation of their current skills and recommendations for areas in which to improve. Review the Referee Administrative Handbook for a complete list of requirements for maintaining your referee grade or upgrading to the next higher grade.

In order to upgrade, you need to do four things.

  1. Pass the written test,
  2. Complete the FUN run,
  3. Pass your assessment(s) on a competitive match, and
  4. Show your official game log with appropriate games for that level.

To upgrade from Grade 8 to 7, you need to pass one assessment as a referee. To upgrade from Grade 7 to 6 or from Grade 6 to 5, you need to pass two assessments as a referee and one as an AR. To request an assessment, download the Frequently Asked Questions and the Assessment Request Form below. Mail the completed request form to Jack Montgomery, District 4 District Director of Assessment (DDA), at the address on the form along with your check. If you already have a match and wish to request an assessor, be sure and include that information as well. Contact Jack at jackmont@comcast.net with any questions about assessments.

Annual maintenance assessments are not required for Grade 8 and 7 renewals. Grade 6 and 5 referees must have one successful assessment to renew for the next year.

District 4 referees who wish to have an assessment on a match outside of District 4 need to submit the request through the District 4 DDA who will coordinate the request with the DDA of the District in which the match will be played. If you wish to have an assessment on a match outside of CNRA, the request must be approved by the State Director of Assessment and can be coordinated through the District 4 DDA.

With the retirement of Mr. Fernando Alvarez in May 2009, Bill Miller has been appointed the new State Director of Assessment for CNRA. Bill has posted new assessment policies on the CNRA web site (www.cnra.net/assess/assess_info.htm) which should be reviewed by each referee who intends to request an assessment for upgrade or for maintenance.
